Many thanks to the Tredegar Thespians for presenting ‘The Bakehouse’ again in Merthyr Tydfil.
The last time was in 2016 when they performed to a full Redhouse Theatre when they were invited to help the Staff of the Leisure Trust to commemorate the anniversary of the death of its once famous Merthyr-born writer, J.O.Francis. He had written the gossipy comedy in 1910. Together with many other of his Anglo-Welsh plays it added to his important contribution to the founding of a Welsh national drama. It is full of Welshness – and fun. Many thanks, too, to Horeb Chapel for inviting the players, who usually perform in modern plays and win prizes galore in am dram competitions.
The dedication of the Tredegar ladies and the verbal and dramatic skills of the author shine through.
