Interesting to note that there were some 400 members of the Jewish community living in Merthyr in 1919 but none today.
In the early 1960’s, my family lived in Queens Road and our next door neighbours were the local Rabbi and his family, Mr and Mrs Fine. They had two sons one about the same age as me and we used to play cricket with a box as the wicket in our back garden.
I remember the Synagogue at the top of the road leading to the town centre and this seemed to attract quite a large attendance on Saturdays. I assume the building is no longer in use and possibly demolished?
The Synagogue is still there, but in a bit of a state, but it is going to be converted into a Jewish Heritage Centre….
