What is the history of “Rotax” ?
Rotax Ltd was one of the shadow firms in Merthyr as part of the pre-war rearmament programme. In 1939 the firm took over the British Sewing Machines factory in Cyfarthfa, there it manufactured magnetos and distributers for the Royal Air Force, it closed in 1946. My father worked there until his call up to the Royal Navy in 1941.
