Clapham and Dwyer were a popular comedy duo in the 1920s and 30s on stage, radio and film. Dwyer was the straight man and Clapham was the silly ‘ass’. However, Dwyer died in 1943, and Clapham continued as a solo act. So not sure if this act in January 1945 was a film or if a live act that a stand in for Dwyer was used.
Interesting that during the war entertainment was seen as as useful element for national morale.

Steffani and Ronalde: Arturo Steffani was an impresario who in 1938 took on a young Ronnie Ronalde (Ronald Charles Waldren, then 15 years old) as part of Steffani’s Silver Songsters, a 21-piece boys choir that was known for its complex vocal and visual arrangements. The Songsters were disbanded in 1947 and Steffani became Ronalde’s personal manager, mentor and chaperone. Ronalde became a world famous singer, siffleur (whistler), and yodeller.
I believe that the Songsters once appeared at the Temperance Hall and that Ronnie and some of the boys were boarded at my Grandparent’s house in 12 Union Street, Thomastown. My Grandmother took in travelling salesmen and touring artists on a regular basis.
