A most informative old newspaper item. It reveals the woeful state of the local health service as it was in 1945. It begs the hope that Merthyr people gave generously to the appeal. Fortunately, things changed and we can look back knowing that plans to create a better health service for all were soon in progress, thanks to the vision and determination of the young M.P. Aneurin Bevan.
Three years later Britain’s National Health Service was born.
